The struggles females can go through while working in a STEM field were the motivation behind this collection. My research began after watching the movie Hidden Figures. I was fascinated to learn various stories and struggles of females who had to deal with this unfair treatment in their workplace. These females loved the work that they did and yet they were constantly being treated as objects. I believe that it was important that this piece be created from a male perspective of their female coworkers, perceiving them as mindless objects. The aluminum foil represents how a sexist male may assume females are pliable and mendable. The silhouette is a feminine shape but with the middle fingers acting as straps to show their strength and willpower and the fight to be treated as equals.
