Inspired by Instagram videos of the popping bubbles, the popping explosion sound was meant to depict a burst of disappointment. This “Crushing My Creativity” piece stemmed from a disappointment that I had experienced. The idea of using bubble wrap appealed to me because it represents a see-through vulnerability when putting my ideas out into the world. For the design, I chose a turtle shell with flowers being exposed to show how some goals and plans can put you through a hostile environment, yet still growth can come from it.

To illustrate “Crushing Female Creativity,” bubble wrap was injected with an extra fine-tipped syringe needle that was carefully filled with a balanced mixture of acrylic paints and water. This perfect ratio of paint and water created the ideal amount of burst and drip that I had envisioned. The solution was carefully injected into each 3/16 inch bubble of the sheet that was meant to mimic fabric and carefully sewn into a garment.

While thinking of ways to photograph the project best, an idea popped into my head. I chose to take that expression literally by placing syringes and tubes of paint from my head/brain and placing them into my mouth to show the cycle of ideas being turned into words and exposing them to the world to make a statement.
